GO Public Schools Taps Edgility to Hire Two Executive Directors
There are over 6 million public school students in California, and less than half are meeting standards in English language arts and mathematics. If this alarming trend continues, 1.1 million students–the majority being Latina/o/x, who make up more than half of the public student population–will be unable to graduate by 2030.
Challenge: Choosing from a limited pool of candidates
GO Public Schools, which serves communities throughout California, was searching for new executive directors for their Fresno and Oakland sites.
Finding a leader rooted in the history of Fresno and Oakland and who deeply believed in the mission of GO Public Schools was critical. As a small organization with limited executive search resources, they knew it could be challenging to find candidates who were mission aligned, steeped in local context, and who addressed the cultural needs of their constituents, such as being a Spanish speaker (especially for Fresno).
Solution: Tapping into Edgility’s leadership network
GO Public Schools knew that Edgility could provide the capacity it needed as a small organization to help it find a highly qualified leader. Edgility launched searches for executive directors in Fresno and in Oakland, conducting one-on-one outreach to identify potential candidates, instead of simply posting online. Edgility also hired translators so all staff members could engage in the hiring process.
Results: Champions for quality education in California
GO Public Schools successfully hired Executive Directors with a proven background in local and state leadership for its Fresno and Oakland regions. “We’re so grateful to Edgility for helping us go beyond simply posting a job description online. Its deep network of qualified candidates and thorough vetting process helped us find new leaders to champion quality education in California,” says Darcel Sanders, CEO of GO Public Schools.
