Ensuring accountability for school board representatives
All children deserve an equitable education, but unfortunately not all kids are receiving one in the Atlanta Public School System. The nonprofit advocacy organization Equity in Education was founded to ensure that children in Atlanta are represented by a school board member who values equity. It’s the organization’s mission to hold each member of the board accountable.
Education leader leverages his experiences to bring justice to Atlanta school kids
A native of Compton, California, Anthony Wilson first developed an awareness of the power of an organized community through his church and by watching elderly neighbors lead and protect their neighborhood.
After graduating from Xavier University of Louisiana, Wilson taught high school English in Houston, Texas. His students closed their achievement gap by 105% in one year. Since then, he’s recruited and trained teachers, turned around struggling public schools, started a nonprofit for boys of color, directed an advocacy strategy for a high-quality school network, and won local education measures and elections. Wilson continues to pull as many levers as possible to establish justice for kids in America’s schools.
Wilson works with Edgility to continue dream of ending inequity in schools
Edgility was able to bring together Wilson’s dream of working towards ending educational inequity and Equity in Education’s purpose by placing him as the founding Executive Director.
“Edgility is an incredible resource to help current and aspiring nonprofit executives find the best professional fit where they can make the deepest impact,” said Wilson. “Equity in Education represents an opportunity for me to organize communities, schools, and politics and guarantee a more equitable future for the next 10 generations of children.”
