“As an inquisitive teen, I asked my mom why we were looking at houses we couldn’t really afford. She explained that the opportunities I’d have at the school in this neighborhood were better than those offered in more affordable areas. Developing that understanding at such a young age set me on a pathway to be an advocate for people who aren’t given what they need to succeed. As a mom of two black boys and one daughter who have the privilege and burden of growing up in America, I have a sense of urgency around correcting the systems that were developed to restrict access for my children and so many others.”
