Parent Revolution Partners with Edgility to Place Executive Director Amidst Global Pandemic

Parent Revolution tapped Edgility to help it find a new Executive Director who could reflect its values and empower parents to create individual, local, and systemic change.

Challenge: Parent Revolution launches Executive Director search right before pandemic strikes

The Los Angeles-based nonprofit had a longstanding Executive Director with an impressive list of accomplishments. After several years serving as head of the nonprofit, he and his wife decided to relocate across the country in early 2020. Parent Revolution and Edgility had just launched their search for a replacement when the pandemic struck.

Solution: Using down time to truly assess the needs of the organization

Edgility and Parent Revolution collectively decided to halt the Executive Director search knowing many qualified candidates were too uncertain about the future to make any major career moves.

Edgility recognized the challenging nature of the client’s situation and used the down time to delve deeper into what the organization hoped to find in its new leader, beginning with a detailed needs assessment. This meant speaking to staff members, board members, and constituents to uncover their vision for the future of the organization. It also meant solidifying their values–and subsequently finding candidates who were fully aligned.

When Edgility re-launched the search a couple of months later, it identified and contacted qualified candidates, focusing on women and people of color, by leveraging its extensive network as well as the reach of social media.

Results: Edgility successfully places education advocate as new Executive Director

Parent Revolution narrowed down the diverse talent pool Edgility had built to just a few candidates. It landed on Jay Artis-Wright, an advocate for education rights for over 20 years, and a parent and woman of color. She was highly qualified with years of professional and lived experience that aligned with the diverse parent community Parent Revolution serves.
