“Education has always been the constant in my life through different challenges and changes. I excelled in school and had the privilege to attend well funded and resourced schools. After college, I dove head first into teaching with TFA and truly was able to see the disparities in our schools. My students and colleagues taught me more than I ever expected, and that experience drives my continued passion for equitable opportunities for children across the country.”

  • Directly out of college, Mary Joan joined Teach For America in the Mississippi Delta where she spent her corps commitment teaching middle school Spanish I and II, coaching basketball, volleyball and track, and representing specialty teachers on the school’s leadership team.
  • Mary Joan joined Edgility late 2019 and has worn many hats on the team. From managing calendars and email to streamlining the search systems and processes with the introduction of platforms and tools.
  • She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is pursuing a Masters in Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University.

Mary Joan, or MJ, lives with her partner Kyle and their hyper COVID puppy, Winston.  When she doesn’t have her nose in her school books, MJ likes to attend spin/strength/yoga classes, drink red wine, crack open a good book and travel.

Put your values to work. Act on equity.

We believe equity isn’t a box to check. It’s a daily action. Someone’s unique identity isn’t something to overcome–when paired with the right opportunity, it becomes one of their greatest professional assets. We exist to empower social impact organizations to recognize and overcome unconscious bias, racism and sexism so they can build a workforce that reflects and strengthens the communities they serve.
