“As a first-generation daughter of immigrants and deported parents, I have witnessed and experienced many systemic challenges. This personal experience powered my motivation and desire to work in the social justice field. After working with multiple social justice organizations I found myself frustrated with the lack of opportunities for growth and witnessed how systems favored one group of individuals. After learning how Edgility’s work addressed these issues often unseen by management in the organizations I worked for, I became extremely interested and decided to join the Edgility team.“
Before coming to Edgility, Karen worked with multiple nonprofits in the fields of advocating for Immigration rights, fundraising for family reunification, creating workshops for incarcerated individuals, and helping victims of domestic violence find safe housing.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a focus on Entomology. In her last position as a project coordinator, she received accreditation from the Department of Justice EOIR branch where she was able to provide legal support to immigrants.
Karen lives in Southern California where she travels to Mexico weekly to visit her family. In her free time, she enjoys sculpting ceramic figures and takes online courses ranging from data analysis to writing workshops and art. She takes care of her mental health by taking boxing classes and spending time with her pug Franco.
